Updated June 15, 2026
At Portneuf Health, our priority is ensuring our community has access to high-quality, local care.
We previously shared that our agreement with Regence BlueShield of Idaho was set to expire on June 15, 2026. At this time, we have not reached a new agreement, and Portneuf Health is now out of network with all Regence insurance plans.
We are continuing to work toward an agreement that keeps care local and accessible for the communities we serve.
For several months, we have negotiated in good faith to reach a fair contract. However, Regence denies a substantial portion of claims for care we provide, has millions of dollars in unpaid claims owed to Portneuf, and has taken the position that patients can seek care elsewhere rather than reaching a new agreement.
We believe patients should not have to leave our community for care. Portneuf is committed to sustaining access to high-quality, local care. We encourage community members to call Regence at 1-888-675-6570 and ask them to work with Portneuf to reach an agreement that supports access to care in Southeast Idaho.
What this means for patients with Regence insurance plans
- Emergency care is always covered: Emergency services at Portneuf Medical Center remain covered at in-network rates.
- You can still receive care at Portneuf: Non-emergency services may result in higher out-of-pocket costs.
- Continuity of care may be available: Some patients may qualify for continuity of care protections. Contact Regence using the number on your insurance card or call 1-888-675-6570 for details.
Why we are fighting for local care
Portneuf believes patients should not have to leave the community to receive high-quality healthcare. Over the past year, Portneuf has continued investing in local access to care, including:
- Opening a new urgent care clinic in Chubbuck
- Expanding neonatal intensive care services through a specialized Small Baby Unit and telehealth capabilities
- Expanding advanced cardiac care with new procedures and technologies
- Earning multiple national Center of Excellence accreditations for surgical care
- Maintaining a four-star CMS quality rating
These investments are designed to keep care close to home and reduce the need for patients to travel for treatment.
