Calvin Rock, MD is a radiation oncologist specializing in the treatment of cancer and benign diseases using advanced radiation therapies. He completed his medical education at the University of Texas School of Medicine in San Antonio, TX, and his residency at the University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, UT.

His passion for medicine began during his freshman year of college when his studies in human physiology and anatomy sparked a deep interest in the complexities of the human body. This led Calvin to volunteer in healthcare settings, where he developed a strong commitment to the field and desire to become a physician.

Calvin chose radiation oncology as his specialty because it combines cutting-edge technology with ground-breaking research to deliver optimal care to cancer patients. He is deeply committed to leveraging the latest advancements and innovative techniques to enhance treatment efficacy while minimizing side effects. He is grateful for and humbled by the opportunity to help patients through one of the most challenging times of their lives.

Training at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City was an invaluable experience for Calvin. He benefited from world-class cancer care and a rigorous approach to treatment. This has influenced his practice, and he is excited to bring the same level of attention to detail and quality of care to the residents of Southeast Idaho.

Calvin grew up in a small town in Colorado. His wife, Lindee, is from Idaho Falls. They were drawn to Pocatello because of its strong sense of community. When he isn’t practicing medicine, Calvin enjoys quality time with Lindee and their three kids. He loves basketball, cycling, skiing, hiking, camping and all things outdoors.

Services:

Dr. Rock offers a variety of advanced treatments to manage all types of cancer and benign conditions, using precision techniques to target tumors while minimizing damage to healthy tissues. Key services include:

  1. External Beam Radiation Therapy (EBRT):
    • Treats a wide range of cancers by delivering radiation from outside the body.
  2. Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT):
    • An advanced form of EBRT that modulates the intensity of radiation beams, allowing dose painting for more precise targeting of tumors while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues.
  3. Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT):
    • Delivers high-dose, precise radiation for small, well-defined tumors in areas like the lung, liver, and spine, using fewer treatments than traditional radiation.
  4. Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS):
    • Similar to SBRT, it delivers high-dose, precise radiation to brain and spinal tumors with sub-millimeter accuracy.
  5. High-Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy:
    • Involves placing a radioactive source directly inside or near the tumor for a short period. Used for cancers such as prostate, gynecologic, and skin cancer.
  6. Hydrogel Spacers:
    • Involves placing a hydrogel spacer between the prostate and rectum to protect healthy tissue during prostate radiation therapy, reducing radiation exposure and minimizing side effects.
